Accumulation phases A to E
A sideways chart is a conversation. Listen before declaring the buyers have won.
Use phases as a flexible map, including versions without a spring.
PhaseA describes a possible stopping of the decline. PhaseB builds a range through rallies and reactions, not proof of a specific institution buying.
PhaseC is a test in this framework. A spring below support is one form; recognized accumulation schematics also include tests without springs.
PhaseD describes improving upward progress and controlled reactions. PhaseE moves outside the range; returning inside is evidence to review.
Draw boundaries first and phase labels second. Without follow-through, your story can be an unfinished range or a wrong interpretation.
Let’s work through it
- Define range boundaries
- Use provisional phase labels
- Observe progress outside the range
Let’s use numbers · hypothetical example
Price 120→100, rally 110, range 100–110, dip 99→101, close 112, test 109: a hypothetical A–E map. Sustained trade below 99 challenges the bullish interpretation.
Easy mistakes to watch for
- Requiring a spring
- Using hindsight as certainty
- Ignoring a failed breakout
Keep in mind
Do not force every chart into perfect phases or treat a diagram as proof of institutional intent.
Your turn
Draw an accumulation idea with a spring and another without. Mark each failure condition.
A quick check before we move on
Must every accumulation contain a spring?
- Always
- Only in Forex
- No, variants without springs exist
Check answer
No, variants without springs exist A spring is one testing form. The framework includes tests that remain above range support.
